Hey there!

One of my favorite things when I first started embroidering was how I only needed the essentials to get started. I didn't need to have an endless supply of fabric or thread. Whether you've been stitching for a while, or you're just starting out, we almost always use the same basic supplies— an embroidery hoop, fabric, thread, a needle, and a pair of small scissors/snips. That's it!

When I first started, I struggled with finding quality supplies. I was the gal who bought the huge collection of off-brand threads from the craft store (you know the one), only to find out that the quality was nowhere near one of my favorite brands DMC.

This is exactly what I do not want for you! It doesn't have to be hard to know what supplies to use when you're first starting. That's why I would love to share all of my favorite embroidery essentials with you! To make your time starting out as easy as it should be! Here are the embroidery essentials (tools and supplies) you need to get started with embroidery:

  1. Embroidery Hoop

-Holds your fabric taut while stitching.

-Available in wood, plastic, and metal, typically in circular or oval shapes.

  1. Embroidery Needles

-Sharper and have a larger eye than regular sewing needles.

-Common types: crewel, tapestry, and milliner.

  1. Embroidery Floss

-Six-strand thread made of cotton, silk, or rayon.

-Brands like DMC and Anchor are popular.

  1. Fabric

-Common choices: cotton, linen, muslin, or special embroidery fabrics like Aida.

-Choose fabric based on the type of embroidery (cross-stitch, freehand, etc.).

  1. Scissors or snips

-Small, sharp embroidery scissors for precise cutting.

  1. Fabric Marker or Transfer Tools

-Water-soluble pens, heat-erasable pens, or transfer paper to trace or draw patterns.

  1. Pattern or Design

-Pre-made or hand-drawn designs to guide your stitches. (Take a look to our floral stick and stitch designs in our shop catalog https://blomcreativestudio.wixsite.com/website/product-page/floral-stick-and-stitch-designs)
